Eating fruits like the ones pictured here, or using organic products that use ingredients from fresh produce like berries, rhubarb, or citrus, can help you on your quest for healthy, glowing skin.
“I’m a big believer that if you focus on good skin care, you really won’t need a lot of makeup.”
– Demi Moore
One of my true and sincere passions in life is skin care. Skin care, to me, is one of the kindest acts of self-love that a person can show his or her self.
However, organic skin care in particular does come at a bit of a price. In my opinion, the benefits make the price 100% worth it.
Five Reasons Why I Love Organic Skin Care
(Especially Compared to Makeup)
1. SKIN IS A LIVING ORGAN, SO SUFFOCATING IT WITH MAKEUP AROUND THE CLOCK OR USING LOW QUALITY SKIN CARE PRODUCTS IS LIKE FEEDING YOURSELF JUNK FOOD ALL OF THE TIME.
I am not at all trying to imply that makeup is some big, bad, wolf. I am, however, offering a reminder that it is important to be vigilant about using high quality makeup products if you are going to wear makeup most of the time; if you use a lot of makeup, it is especially important to wash your face regularly and clean your makeup brushes to avoid acne breakouts, excessively oily skin, dry patches, and clogged pores. I prefer to spend my money on organic skin care instead of concealers and powders because my face doesn’t actually ever really break out anymore. Since I feed my skin nutrient-rich products, my skin looks healthier than it ever could if I constantly wore makeup…because it legitimately is healthier.
2. INVESTING IN ORGANIC SKIN CARE STRENGTHENS YOUR SKIN’S NATURAL DEFENSE MECHANISMS.
Since my skin is well-nourished, it also is extraordinarily resilient. If I have days where I don’t wash my face– days that are too long and busy, camping trips, long days sweating in the sun, etc.– my skin still doesn’t really ever break out, dry out, or have problems. The reason for this is because the organic skin care products that I use have such high quality, natural ingredients that my natural defense mechanisms are now super strong. Kind of like if you drink a lot of Vitamin- C during flu season and never end up getting sick. I do not get sunburnt on my face like I used to, even if I forget sunscreen. There is truly something to be said for this. Why put something on your face that injures your skin when you could put something on your face that strengthens it?
3. A GOOD SKIN CARE ROUTINE TAKES LESS TIME AND IS MORE FORGIVING THAN A MAKEUP ROUTINE.
If you consider the fact that you have to be extra vigilant about sticking to a regular skin care routine if you wear a lot of makeup, having a face care regimen that mostly revolves around organic skin care will actually save you loads of time. Not only this, but since your skin will inevitably be so clean and healthy if you are regularly using organic skin care products, days where you are running out of the house in a rush and don’t have time to sit down for an hour to do your makeup will no longer be a problem for you. Put on a little moisturizer, mascara, and lipgloss and you will look naturally beautiful and put together without much of an extra effort at all.
4. MY SELF-CONFIDENCE HAS IMPROVED.
Speaking to the above point, I hardly ever wear concealer or powders anymore. My makeup bag consists of mascara, a soft focus highlighter, a few eye shadows, lip gloss, and an eyebrow pencil. I use all of those products together only on special occasions. On an average day, I am barefaced. Prior to investing in organic skin care products, this would have made me feel self-conscious. But now, I actually feel way more beautiful without much makeup on than I do with a lot of makeup on. It is incredibly liberating to no longer feel like I need to be wearing makeup to feel confident or pretty. I feel confident because I take good and deliberate care of my skin, and it shows. Believe it or not, I have had people ask me what kind of concealer I am using before. The answer: none! I am happy that I can enhance my natural beauty through natural products instead of feeling the need to cover up my face to feel “ready” for my days and life.
5. LONG TERM, SKIN CARE IS MORE COST-EFFECTIVE THAN MAKEUP– NOT JUST IN TERMS OF ENHANCING YOUR NATURAL BEAUTY, BUT ALSO IN TERMS OF PRESERVING IT.
If you consider the toll that most makeup takes on your face, and if you consider how many days of your life you have worn or will wear a full-face of makeup, you can probably start to see how makeup is not exactly anti-aging. I much prefer to invest in organic skin care products now with the knowledge that a few decades from now I will have skin that has been pampered, nourished, and preserved from a young age than to head down the alternative route. As we all know, it is much easier to preserve something good than it is to try to get it back once it is gone. This is the case for skin as well. If you preserve your natural skin health from a young age, you will inevitably age more gracefully. It is significantly easier to achieve the whole natural beauty look if you have treated your skin well over the years than it is to try to get back that “youthful glow” through plastic surgery and wildly expensive creams when you are older.
The Snowball Effect
When I got serious about taking care of my skin, I was at a point in my life where I financially had to choose between quality makeup and quality skin care. I chose skin care, and to be honest, it has been a little bit more than life changing for me.
Because I started noticing so many positive results on my own and because I received positive feedback from those around me about my skin, I started educating myself more and more about how to I could best get to know and take care of my face.
This led me to some amazing discoveries about human biology!
I have learned about foods that help you maintain skin elasticity, centuries-old skin care practices from other countries, and DIY ways to incorporate organic ingredients into regular skin care practices. I will be writing about all of this (and more) in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout!
The snowball effect has brought me a lot of joy and fulfillment, as well as knowledge of how to best take care of myself and my body that I can’t wait to share with you all.
What more could I ask for?
For all of these reasons, I personally will always choose to spend more money on organic skin care products than I ever will on makeup!
